We hope you enjoyed the first two rounds of the Derbyshire Junior Grand Prix series. The final round is on Sunday 7th November at Alfreton Leisure Centre. The timings are the same as the last round, ie warm up 5.15-5.45, then introductory talks, with swimming commencing around 6-6.10pm.
We are delighted to announce the latest Olympian to attend the JGP will be Abbie Wood, former Derventio excel/Buxton swimmer, now at Loughborough. Abbie was one of Team GB’s stand out swimmers at the Tokyo Olympics, and came 4th in the final of 200m individual medley. Abbie will be giving a short talk to the swimmers, doing a demo swim, then will be available to sign hats/shirts.
There will be a raffle with many excellent prizes, including some donated by Derbyshire Olympians Abbie Wood, Molly Renshaw and Jacob Whittle.
There are no spectator restrictions at ALC, so please come along and support the swimmers.
We are also delighted that Abbie’s parents Julie and Darren will be coming to the event as well, to talk about their swim parent journey.
The Derbyshire Junior Grand Prix is a series of 3 galas aimed at novice swimmers in Derbyshire to give them competition experience in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere, and to give them the opportunity to post qualifying times for the County events later in the season. They are licenced to level 4. It’s a great opportunity to compete against other swimmers in their age group from around the county. Beforehand, there will be an introductory talk for the swimmers to tell them what they need to know before they compete for the first time.
The top 3 swimmers in each age group will be presented with medals at the Derbyshire Long Course Championships at Ponds Forge in December, by the Derbyshire ASA President. All competitors will be given a Certificate of Participation.
The second round of the Junior Grand Prix is Sunday 10th October at Alfreton Leisure Centre, the closing date is Sunday 26th September. We are delighted to confirm that Derventio Excel’s Olympic swimming sensation Jacob Whittle will be giving a talk before the event, and will do a demonstration swim!
There will be a raffle, including prizes donated by Olympic swimmers Molly Renshaw, Abbie Wood and Jacob Whittle.
Alfreton Leisure Centre are not operating any spectator restrictions, so please come along to support these young swimmers.
